Brexit and Ireland

I was thinking the other day about how ironic and sad it is that the future of this island of Ireland is being decided by an Englishman and a French man. It is like back in the day when the English and the French fought over Ireland in several episodes going back to Norman times.

The main casualties of those skirmishes were the Irish people themselves.

What is even more sad is that there is nobody negotiating on behalf of Northern Ireland, mainly because they do not have a coherent voice. Northerners do not have an Assembly and they do not even talk to each other.

History has shown us that Ireland does not do well in empires and especially when it is used in a tug of war between two such empires (EU/UK), neither of which, when it comes to it, care that much for our small island.

I sincerely hope that this time we have a different outcome.
